Genevieve Brooks, a long-time resident of Maquoketa, Iowa, died December 25, 2020 at Grundy Care Center in Grundy Center, Iowa. Due to the pandemic a graveside memorial service will be held in the Spring. Genny, as she was known to her friends, was born on August 1, 1923 to Dr. and Mrs. Owen L. Frank in Maquoketa, Iowa.

She graduated valedictorian of her class at Maquoketa High School in 1941, and went on to Frances Shimer College in Mount Carroll, Illinois, where she again graduated with honors. She married True Dale Brooks on June 11, 1944 at the First Congregational Church in Maquoketa. The couple made their home on the family farm near Delmar, IA where they raised their own family. In 1997 they moved to Maquoketa. After Dale's death on July 30, 2008 Genny remained in her home for the next few years, before moving to Cedar Falls where she was a resident at Bickford Cottage Assisted Living. In the Fall of 2017 she was relocated to Grundy Care Center, due to declining health. She remained there until her death.

During her married life Genny was active in the community and loved to entertain throughout the year, especially during the Christmas season, her most favorite time of year. She was known to her many friends as "the hostess with the mostest," always welcoming anyone into her home. She and Dale enjoyed years of extensive travel, and she loved working on art projects, along with playing the piano and organ.

Those left to honor Genny's memory are her son and daughter-in-law Phillip (Mary Jo) Brooks of Enterprise, AL, daughter and son-in-law Nancy (Joel) Smith of Shell Rock, IA, and daughter and son-in-law Barbara (Jay) Erickson of Silver Creek, WA; 9 grandchildren, 18 great grandchildren, 1 great great grandchild, and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, 2 sisters (one in infancy), and 1 brother in infancy.
