B. Koolman Dies Friday

Bernardus Koolman, resident of Sibley for the last 22 years, passed away at his home Friday, Oct. 30, 1925, at 7:45 a.m.

He was born in Floethusen, Germany Feb. 19, 1835. He served as captain in the navy for 4 years. He was married to Eva Vina Fuls Aug. 1, 1862. To this union were born 9 children, two of whom died in infancy.

They came to America and settled in Freeport, Ill., in 1872 where he was engaged in farming, moving from there to Grundy County, Iowa. They came to Sibley in 1903.

His wife Eva Vina Koolman preceded him in death in 1920. Those left to mourn are Mrs. Hannah Stenzen, Owatona, Minn.; Miss Tittia Koolman, St. Paul, Minn.; Herman Koolman, Wellsburg, Ia.; John Koolman, Sibley, Iowa; Mrs. Bertha Wells, Webster City, Ia.; Bernard Koolman, California; Mrs. Bernadine Zinn, Sibley, Ia.

Funeral services were held in the home Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock. The Rev. DeVries was in charge. Burial in West Holman cemetery.

Obituary

Barnardus Koolman

Barnardus Koolman, resident of Sibley for the last twenty-two years died at his home on Friday, October 30, at the age of ninety years of uriant senility.

B. Koolman was born in Floethusen, Germany, February 19, 1835. A captain in the navy for four years and serving on sailing vessels years before receiving his captaincy, he was reticent, and rarely spun a yarn of his many thrilling experiences as a naval captain. He was married to Eva Vina Fuls, August 1, 1862. To this union were born nine children, two of whom died in infancy.

The Koolman family came to America in 1872 and settled at Freeport, Ill., where he was engaged in farming. They later moved to Grundy county, Iowa, and in 1903 Mr. Koolman retired from his active life and moved to Sibley. His wife, Eva Vina Koolman preceded him in death in 1920. The seven children who survive him are Mrs. Hanna Stenzen, Owatonna, Minn.; Miss Tittia Koolman, St. Paul; Herman, Wellsburg; John, Sibley; Mrs. Bertha Wells, Webster City; Bernard, California; Mrs. Bernadine Zinn, Sibley; and a sister, Mrs. Jennie Bruning, Germany.

Funeral services were conducted at the Koolman home last Monday afternoon, Rev. J. M. DeVries, in charge. Burial was in the Sibley cemetery.

Bernard Koolman Passes Away at Ripe Age

Bernard Koolman, who conducted the first general store at Wellsburg, died at his home at Sibley last Friday. He was 91 years and died from infirmities of old age. Funeral services were held at Sibley Monday and interment was made in the cemetery there.

Wellsburg's pioneer merchant was succeeded here by his son, H. B. Koolman, who has been in the mercantile business here over thirty years. H. B. was with his father during his last hours and remained until after the funeral.
