Obituary Mrs. O. B. Eells
Clara S. Gereke, daughter of Sophia and Herman Gereke, was born in Burlington, Iowa, Dec. 24, 1882. At an early age she moved with her family to Wellsburg where her father owned and operated the hotel business. As a young woman she was employed as bookkeeper at the Phillip Liebsohn Store.
She was united in marriage to Oden B. Eells on Sept. 6, 1905. To this union was born two sons: Norval C. and Herbert O. Eells. In 1914 Mr. and Mrs. Eells moved with their family to Grundy Center, where they made their home until 1928, when the family returned to Wellsburg where Mrs. Eells was manager of the Iowa State Telephone exchange. After serving in this capacity for 17 years, Mr. and Mrs. Eells moved to Mechanicsville, where they have since resided.
Mrs. Eells was a member of the Presbyterian church at Grundy Center, but attended the English Reformed church while living in Wellsburg.
Following a lingering illness, Mrs. Eells passed from this earth on Sunday afternoon, March 15, at the age of 70 years.
She is survived by her widower, Oden B. Eells and two sons, Norval C. Eells of Mechanicsville and Herbert O. Eells of Cresco, five grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and a host of friends.
She was a woman of fine spirit and many sterling qualities. Her devotion to service and love of all mankind set her apart as a true Christian. Her passing leaves a void in the lives of all with whom she came in contact.
Services conducted by Rev. John Olthoff were held at the 2nd Christian Reformed church in Wellsburg last Wednesday afternoon. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery, Grundy Center.
