W. F. Martin Died In Los Angeles

Son of Early Day Residents Of Ackley

Born and Reared Here--Engaged in Business at Wellsburg--He Was Past 70

William F. Martin, born and reared in Ackley, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Ferdinand Martin, early day residents, who lived here through a half-century of time, up to their death, died in the city of Los Angeles, California, on Wednesday, a week ago, after an illness of considerable length. He was in his 71st year.

Mr. Martin and his wife left Ackley about two years ago; he had not been in good health, but thought that a change of climate might prove beneficial. It did not. He had been afflicted with anemia. During the past three months he had been in a convalescent home.

The Martin family has suffered several deaths quite recently. Oliver Pleasants (husband of Hulda) was first; followed by Mr. Maune; Wm. F. on Sept. 8. Surviving members of the Martin family are Mrs. O. M. Pleasant (Hulda), Mrs. A. K. Philleo (Etta), Mrs. Wick (Alma), all living in Los Angeles. One brother, Reuben, has been a practicing physician at Crystal City and San Antonio, Texas, through the years. He was twice married; the first Mrs. Martin died several years ago. His second (who was a nurse in Ackley) her present whereabouts unknown.

Wm. F. Martin's remains were cremated in Los Angeles, following his death. It is expected that his ashes will be brought to Ackley (date not known) to be placed in the mausoleum in Oakwood cemetery.
