In May 1909 Mr. H. B. Koolman and Mr. Klugkist opened a general store in Titonka, Iowa, Mr. Koolman selling his interest in the business the following year to T. D. Sietsema.

In January 1915, Mr. Klugkist married Mrs. Emma Kaufman of Chicago, Illinois. Several years later he sold his interest in the business to C. W. Tuttle and retired to Cedar Lake, Indiana, where he lived the remaining years of his life.
