Former Oelwein Area Youth Takes His Own Life
A Cedar Falls area youth, formerly of the Oelwein community, took his own life Wednesday evening apparently after being despondent over the death of his father three years ago. He was Larry Dean Christopherson, 15, son of the late Oliver Christopherson, 47, formerly of the Arlington vicinity.
The youth, who had been making his home with a brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Wallace Tucker, at Route 4, Cedar Falls, (near Dike) was found dead by the Tuckers when they returned home Wednesday evening.
It was reported the youth, a student at Dike High school, had been hunting Wednesday afternoon and took his life with a .22 rifle. A note found on the youth stated "Bury me beside Dad."
The elder Christopherson died instantly, Dec. 9, 1954, after his tractor overturned, pinning him underneath with a wheel across his chest on the farm six miles southwest of Arlington, now occupied by the Calvin Derr family. Christopherson was interred at Woodlawn cemetery in Oelwein.
The youth was a student at the Maynard school at the time.
He is survived by his mother, Mrs. Grace Christopherson and a sister, LuAnn, both in Missouri; his sister, Lovila, Mrs. Tucker, Cedar Falls; and a brother, Lynos, Waterloo.
