Clarence "Swede" Bowers, 82

Clarence "Swede" Bowers, 82, of Dike, passed away on October 18 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls.

Funeral services were October 20 at the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church. Burial followed in the Elmwood Cemetery in Dike. Pastor Matt Ooms officiated the service. A memorial may be directed to the family.

Swede was born on June 6, 1919 near Whitten, the son of Charles and Gertie (Allen) Bowers. He graduated from Whitten High School in 1936. On November 19, 1943, he was united in marriage to Josephine Conradi at her parent's home in Dike. Swede farmed around the Dike area for 40 years. He was a member of the Lincoln Center Christian Reformed Church in rural Grundy Center. He was a member of several bowling leagues. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Kenneth Bowers of Grundy Center.

Survivors include his wife, Josephine of Dike; three sisters, Lena Hunt of Marshalltown, Laura Ward of New Mexico and Charlotte and her husband Bernie Smith of Marshalltown; a brother Howard and his wife Gladys Bowers of Dike; two sisters-in-law, Rosella and her husband Charles Paige of Dike and Gloria and her husband Jim Gerstenkorn of Dike.
