Funeral Services For Mrs. Cora Abels Thursday, Oct. 21
Funeral services for Mrs. Cora Abels, Dike, were held at the United Methodist Church, Dike, last Thursday afternoon, Oct. 21, 1976.
Mrs. Abels passed away at the Schoitz Memorial Hospital in Waterloo on Monday, Oct. 18. She had been a hospital patient for two weeks at Sartori hospital and Schoitz prior to her death.
The Rev. James Hanke officiated at the 1:30 p.m. services. Vocal music was provided by Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Graves who sang "How Great Thou Art" and "Old Rugged Cross." Mrs. Alice Mayer accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Graves and played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.
Ushers for the services were John Mulder and Russell Hohenberger. Flower attendants were Mrs. Lewis Luitjens and Mrs. Lawrence Mark. Pallbearers were Mrs. Abels' grandsons, namely Harry Lamb, Allen VanBrug, John Abels, Jan Abels, Ross Abels and David Abels.
Burial was at the Elmwood cemetery, Dike.
Cora Wiese was born Dec. 30, 1889 near Reinbeck, the daughter of Daniel and Reta Fike Wiese Abels. She was married to Henry Abels on Sept. 25, 1912 at the Colfax Center Church. They farmed most of their years in the Dike area. They retired to Dike in 1945. Mr. Abels passed away in 1961.
Mrs. Abels was a member of the United Methodist Church, Dike, and a life member of the United Methodist Women's organization.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Jerry (Ella) VanBrug of Grinnell, and Mrs. Winona Lamb of Davenport; three sons, Edgar of 5513 Grundy Road, Cedar Falls, John of Rockford, Ill., and Walter of Davenport; three brothers, Wm. Wiese of Bonner's Ferry, Idaho, Herman Wiese of Grundy Center (who passed away at Grundy Memorial Hospital Thurs., Oct. 21) and Carl Wiese of Waterloo; four sisters, Mrs. Tillie Gronewold of Grundy Center, Mrs. Johanna Meinders of Cedar Falls, Mrs. Earl (Goldie) Wical, Sr. of Grundy Center and Mrs. Sylvina Smith of Waterloo; and 14 grandchildren and 27 great-grandchildren.
Public viewing was held at the Dike Funeral Chapel who was in charge of the arrangements from Wednesday afternoon until prior to the service time when viewing was held at the church.
