Rites Held For Tena Duisman
Mrs. Tena J. Duisman passed away at 4:55 p.m. Monday, October 31, at the Long Term Care Unit of the Grundy County Memorial Hospital.
Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church, Dike, on Thursday, November 3 at 10:30 a.m. Pastor James F. Hanke officiated.
Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Graves sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "How Great Thou Art." They were accompanied by Mrs. John Paige, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.
The casket bearers were Edgar Abels, Harold Cummings, John Volberding, Jack Heritage, Roger Arends, and Russell Nielsen.
The ushers were John Paige and Gerald Bruns. Mrs. Naomi Roberts and Mrs. Russell Nielsen and Mrs. Angeline Arends were in charge of the floral arrangements.
Interment was in the Elmwood Cemetery, Dike. Relatives and friends were invited to return to the church following the committal services for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.
Mrs. Duisman was born on January 24, 1906, in the Netherlands, the daughter of Pauline Tobin and Fred Timmer, Sr. She attained the age of 77 years, nine months and seven days.
On October 3, 1936, at the Little Brown Church at Nashua, she was united in marriage to George Duisman. After their marriage they made their home in Dike.
Her husband George passed away on May 7, 1959. After the death of her husband, she continued to make her home in Dike.
She worked in the school hot lunch program in Dike. She became a resident of the Long Term Care unit on July 6, 1982.
She was a member of the Dike United Methodist Church and the Ladies Circle, Rebekah Lodge and Hostess and Eight Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, three brothers, and three sisters.
She is survived by three sisters, Mrs. Bertha Aswegan of Parkersburg, Mrs. Fannie Johnson of Boone and Miss Harriette Timmer of Sarasota, FL; two brothers, Fred Timmer of rural Dike and John Timmer of the Veterans Home in Marshalltown; and by several nieces and nephews.
A memorial fund has been established. The Dike Funeral Chapel, Dike, was in charge of the arrangements.
