Services Held For C. J. Fischer
Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church in Dike last Thursday, May 22, 1975 for Cornelius J. Fischer, 59.
Mr. Fischer passed away at 4:45 p.m. on Monday, May 19 at the Sartori Memorial Hospital, Cedar Falls of injuries he sustained in a one-car accident east of Dike last Saturday night, May 17.
The Reverends Robert and Jo Hoover officiated at the 1:30 p.m. services. Musical interludes of "How Great Thou Art" and "For All The Saints" were played by Mrs. John Paige, who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.
Pallbearers were Vernon Byl, Jack Eischen, Donald King, Frederick Zimmerman, Ralph Immings and Russell Nielsen.
The ushers were Jack Heritage and Albert Lauterbach. Mrs. Lorraine Timmer and Mrs. Roger Davis were in charge of the floral arrangements.
Burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery, Dike, Iowa.
Relatives and friends were invited to return to the church fellowship room following the committal services.
The Dike Funeral Chapel who was in charge of the arrangements held public viewing at the Chapel from Tuesday evening until the casket was taken to the church for viewing prior to the services.
A memorial fund has been established.
Cornelius J. Fischer was born May 23, 1915 and reached the age of 59 years, 11 months and 26 days. He was born in Dallas, South Dakota the son of the Rev. Cornelius and Martha Rewerts Fischer. The family came to Iowa when he was at a young age. When he graduated from high school they lived in the Dunkerton area.
On March 30, 1940, he was united in marriage to Wanda Waddingham in the Methodist parsonage at Hampton, Iowa. After their marriage they lived in several areas and then moved to Cedar Falls for sometime. In 1950 they moved to Dike. He had a milk route and for the last 25 years he worked in connection with the Goodyear Tire Store. His last employer was Dorfman Tire Co., Cedar Falls.
He was a member of the United Methodist Church of Dike. He was very active with the Boy Scouts of America while his boys were growing up.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Martha Fischer of Waverly; his widow, Wanda; three sons, Neal of Dike and Gene and Jon at home; three daughters, Mrs. Kurt (Carol) Kelley, Dike, Mrs. Bruce (Mary) Goldenstein of Cedar Falls and Miss Jane Fischer of Waterloo; eight grandchildren; and two brothers, Fred Fischer of Cedar Rapids and Francis Fischer of Waverly.
He was preceded in death by his father and one daughter, Pam.
