Averil Kellum Services Held

Averil Kellum, of Dike, passed away Friday, October 21, at Parkview Manor, Reinbeck of natural causes, having attained the age of 79 years, 6 months and 27 days.

Funeral services were held Monday, October 24, at the United Methodist Church, Dike, at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Steven Solberg officiating. Burial followed in Elmwood Cemetery, Dike.

Pallbearers were Matthew Christiansen, Dustin Kellum, Shane Kellum, Joey Kellum, Todd Witte and Mark Wilson.

A memorial fund has been established.

Averil E. Kellum was born March 24, 1915, in Butler County, the daughter of Charles E. and Minnie (Farnsworth) Whitney. She attended New Hartford country schools and graduated from New Hartford High School with the class of 1933.

On May 29, 1933, she was united in marriage to Henry R. Kellum in Waverly. For over 30 years, Averil worked with her husband on farms in Grundy, Butler, Bremer and Chickasaw counties. She was also employed for many years as a cook at the Barn Cafe in Dike, and retired from the Knife Factory in Dike.

Averil was preceded in death by her husband, Henry in 1976; her parents; and two brothers, Charles Whitney and Charlton Whitney.

Survivors include 4 sons, Dale Kellum and wife Charlotte of Red Bluff, California, Roger Kellum and wife Mary of Waterloo, Mike Kellum and wife Jan of Stout and Bruce Kellum and wife Zelda of Allison; 3 daughters, Gail (Illene) and husband Ray Miller of Truth or Consequences, New Mexico, Cherlyn and husband Jim Brooke of Huntsville, Missouri, and Zatha and husband Richard Christiansen of rural Cedar Falls; 25 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and 1 brother, Rolland Whitney of Port Angeles, Washington.
