Last Rites For Minnie Volberding

Mrs. Minnie H. Volberding, 91, of Dike, passed away Sunday morning, Jan. 3, at Sartori hospital in Cedar Falls where she had been a patient five days.

Services were held Wednesday afternoon at 1:30 in the United Methodist church at Dike. Rev. Robert Hoover, Jr. officiated. Burial was in Elmwood cemetery, Dike.

Mrs. Volberding was born on July 31, 1878, in Westrhauderfehn, Germany, the daughter of John and Anna Oltman Hempen. On March 1, 1905 she was married to Herman F. Volberding at Lincoln Center. He preceded her in death on March 29, 1954. The Volberdings farmed southeast of Dike for several years and moved into Dike in 1916.

Mrs. Volberding was a devoted worker in the Dike Methodist Church as long as her health permitted. She had taught Sunday School and was a long time member of the Ladies Aid and participated in many other church groups.

She is survived by two sons, John Volberding of Dike and Edward of Des Moines; two daughters, Mrs. Ubbe (Marie) Reiter of Northwood, Iowa and Mrs. Lee (Martha) Wilson of Hardy, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Nettie Hessenius and Mrs. Mary Konken of Stout; five grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Volberding was preceded in death by her husband, two brothers and two sisters.

A memorial fund has been established. Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of arrangements.
