Leona Patterson Services Held

Leona S. Patterson, 80, of Dike, died of natural causes Saturday, June 4, at her home.

Funeral services were held on Wednesday, June 8, at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in Dike with Rev. Thelma C. Subramanian officiating. Burial followed in Elmwood Cemetery in rural Dike.

Memorials may be directed to the United Methodist Church in Dike or to SAC's Senior Activity Center in Cedar Falls.

She was born December 22, 1913, in Reinbeck the daughter of I. F. and Sarah (Carroll) Lovell. She attended country school in Grundy county, and was graduated from Reinbeck High School.

On December 24, 1944, Leona was united in marriage to John W. Patterson in Kenosha, Wisconsin. The couple made their home in Kenosha, and Leona worked for a time with the telephone company in Racine, Wisconsin. She later worked at the Shangri-La night club in Kenosha. The family later moved to Illinois, where Leona went to work for Shelby-Craftco Co. in Joliet until 1978, when she retired after 18 years with Shelby-Craftco Co. Following retirement, she did some traveling before returning to Iowa in 1980, settling in Dike, where she had lived ever since.

Leona was a member of the United Methodist Church in Dike. She liked gardening, ceramics, and spending time with family, especially her grandchildren. She was a regular volunteer at SAC's on 5th, the Senior Activity Center on 5th Street in Cedar Falls.

She is survived by one son, Peter R. Patterson of Romeoville, Illinois; one sister, Marjorie Johnson of rural Dike; four grandchildren Betty M. Patterson, Peter J. Patterson, Todd Patterson and Philip Patterson; and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John; her parents; four brothers, Ralph Lovell, Earl "Mike" Lovell, Ross Lovell and Wayne Lovell; and two sisters, Marian Bennett and Claire Lovell.

The Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Cedar Falls was in charge of the arrangements.
