Hudson Sidney Hayes, beloved son of Dustin and Kristal (Kramer) Hayes
From Hudson’s first days he loved to eat. Late nights with mom turned into sippy cups drained then tossed on the floor. Bananas disappeared in two bites. His nickname was Hoggie, and he earned it. Hudson was frequently caught in the pantry eating chocolate chips, Hershey bars, cookies and Doritos. His favorite foods were homemade crepes with strawberries and lots of Redi-whip, Cheeseburger soup, Chicken Fettuccine, and seafood. Around the supper table at the Hayes’s were especially treasured times, reading the Bible together as a family after a delicious meal.
On Hudson’s 5th birthday, Dustin gave him a Yamaha PW-50 with training wheels. That began his love of dirt bikes. As soon as he was off of the bus, his helmet was on. Trails, jumps, and tabletops were made in the yard. He’d ride rain, snow or shine. In the spring of 2018 he entered his first ever race at New Hartford kicking off a short season of tall tales and good friendships with other racers.
Dirt bikes helped him bond with his Kramer cousins who share his love of dirt bikes. Riding together was a great time. Picnics and swimming at the Kramer pond was a favorite. Sleep overs in grandma’s living room, grandpa Leroy’s famous pancakes, sweet corn feasts on the deck are special memories. Hudson loved going to “Kramerville”.
Time with Grandpa and Grandma Hayes was always special. From picking up sticks, eating banana bars, and making pit stops at Kwik Star, to Freddy’s for hamburgers and fries, it was the small and frequent joys of life that added up. Camping at Koop’s Pond, campfires, and a trip to Alabama for Sid and Linda’s anniversary were special times for the Hayes family.
The most special day in Hudson’s life came Sunday, April 8th, 2018. A friend had accidentally stuck a Sunday school craft in his Bible case. After finding the craft Hudson looked up the verse written on it. 1 Peter 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree. That we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: By whose stripes ye were healed. Through those words Hudson understood that Christ died for his sins. He was happy to share the good news with family and friends.
2018 continued to be a great year for Hudson. He learned to water ski at a friend’s lake cabin. He rode RZRs in the desert of Moab Utah. And of course, he rode his dirt bike. Hudson was also beginning to be a great help to Dustin. He helped his dad in the field. He ran the spade and put in tees. He’d bury rocks with the backhoe and loved to drive pickups. He had even just learned to drive a stick shift from Grandpa’s house to home.
With all of this going on, Hudson was especially looking forward to helping the Seed Sowers organization deliver John 3:16 texts to homes in Laredo, TX. He was so excited to go over Christmas break. God had other plans. Through a traffic accident on this journey, Hudson went out into eternity to be home with his Lord.
Hudson is survived by his parents, Dustin and Kristal Hayes, of Dike; his sister, Emma Hayes, and his three brothers, Logan, Evan and Ian Hayes, all of Dike; his paternal grandparents, Sid and Linda Hayes, of Dike; his maternal grandparents, Leroy and Laurie Kramer, of Shell Rock, Iowa; his paternal great grandparents, Robert and LaVonne DeGroote, of Parkersburg; his aunts and uncles, Ryan (Cristina) Hayes of West Liberty, Iowa, Joel (Ashley) Hayes of Holland, Iowa, Andrea (Brian) McCullough of Hudson, Iowa, and Jeff (Carissa) Kramer and Steve (Koula) Kramer, both of Shell Rock, and twenty cousins.
