Services Held For Herman E. Boike

Services for Herman E. Boike, 81, of Waterloo were held Thursday, July 30, at 1:00 p.m. at the Parrott & Wood Funeral Home with burial in the Elmwood Cemetery in Dike.

He died of natural causes Saturday (July 25) at his home. He was born September 28, 1905, in Lincoln Township, Grundy County, son of Harm and Emma Saathoff Boike. He married Jennie Harrenstein on November 19, 1925, in Grundy Center. She died in January 1986. He farmed in Grundy County for many years and worked for Rath Packing Co. retiring in 1965. He later worked for the Waterloo Parking Meter Department.

Survivors include two sons: Russell of Ponca City, OK and Norman of Cedar Falls; three daughters, Evelyn Brecunier of Cedar Falls, and Betty Graybill and Carol McGrane, both of Waterloo; 20 grandchildren, 29 great-grandchildren; four step-grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren; a brother, Leslie Boike of New Hartford; and two sisters, Minnie Ruthenberg of Cedar Falls and Harriet Boike of Waterloo. He was preceded in death by his wife, a son, Roger, and a sister, Mable Henningson.
