Lyman C. Miller Dies Suddenly at St. Joseph Mo.

Lyman Charles Miller, 43, prominent young local man, died very unexpectedly late last Sunday evening, May 14, at St. Joseph, Mo., of a heart attack.

Mr. and Mrs. Miller had accompanied a Cedar Falls couple to Missouri to attend the Cedar Falls man's parents' golden wedding anniversary. The four had left Dike early Sunday morning.

Mr. Miller suffered the fatal heart attack shortly after retiring for the night, and was rushed to a St. Joseph hospital, where he was pronounced dead on arrival. Engelkes Funeral Service was called to bring the body to their funeral home in Grundy Center.

Funeral services will be held in the Dike Methodist church Thursday, May 18, at 2:00 p.m. The body will be brought to the church at 10:00 a.m. Thursday morning. Burial will be in Dike Elmwood cemetery, with a short Masonic committal service.

Lyman had been a member of the Dike Methodist church since 1930, and had just recently given up the position as superintendent of the Sunday School, which he had capably and faithfully served for 5 years.

He was a willing Scout worker, giving many hours of his time as an adult leader to the Scouting program. He served as Institutional Representative of the Dike Cub Pack No. 108 for a year beginning in May of 1954; he served as Cub Master of the Dike Pack for a period of 6 years, and was currently on both the Cub Scout and Boy Scout committees.

For 20 years he worked as a machine maintenance man at the Viking Pump Company in Cedar Falls, and just last week had received his 20 year pin which the company awards to employees.

In July, 1943, he became a member of the Machinists Local Union and was serving his third year as a member of the Board of Directors of the Muni-Fac Credit Union of Cedar Falls.

Lyman became a member of Honor Lodge No. 646 of the Masonic Order in Dike four years ago. At the time of his death he was serving as Sr. Deacon.

Lyman was born on December 22, 1917, at Reinbeck, the son of Hugh and Sarah Collins Miller. He graduated from the Dike high school in 1935. On June 28, 1940, he married Hilda Pruisner at the Salem Lutheran parsonage with the Rev. William Paulson officiating. The couple lived in Waterloo a year after their marriage, then in Cedar Falls and since then have lived in Dike.

Survivors include his wife; 2 sons, Loren and Randall; and one daughter, Rebecca, at home; his parents; two brothers, Melvin of Dike and John of Glendale, Calif.; and one sister, Mrs. John Black, of Hudson.
