Rites Held For Melvin Miller

Melvin J. Miller of Dike passed away at 11:30 p.m. Wednesday, November 7 at Sartori Memorial Hospital in Cedar Falls where he had been a patient for two days.

Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church, Dike, on Saturday, November 10 at 10:30 a.m. Rev. Shirley Textor officiated.

The musical selection of "We Shall Behold Him" was rendered as part of the service.

The casket bearers were Marvin Miller, Wesley Miller, Dale Stumberg, Ed Miller, Mark Miller and Dwayne Petersen.

Ushers were Jack Heritage and John Volberding. Mrs. Lewis Luitjens and Mrs. Edgar Abels were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Interment was in the Elmwood Cemetery, Dike.

Relatives and friends were invited to return to the church following the committal services for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.

Mr. Miller was born October 6, 1923, on a farm near Reinbeck, the son of Hugh and Sarah "Sallie" Collins Miller. He attained the age of 61 years, one month and one day.

He grew up in the Dike area and graduated from Dike high school in 1941. He farmed for two years and then served in the U.S. Army until 1947.

On October 15, 1948, at Waterloo, he was united in marriage to Beverly Sterrett. After their marriage they lived in Waterloo for three years.

In 1951, they moved back to Dike and farmed for nine years while also working at Titus Manufacturing, where he worked until his health made it necessary to retire in 1973.

He was a member of the Dike United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Lyman Miller.

He is survived by his wife, Beverly of Dike; four daughters, Mrs. Frank (Peggy) Nitz of Cedar Falls, Mrs. Dirk (Patti) Lytle of Dike, Mrs. Pete (Susan) Grace of San Diego, CA and Mrs. Tim (Cindy) Randolph of Ft. Worth, TX; one sister, Mrs. John (Sybil) Black of Dike; one brother, John Miller of Dinsdale, CA and two grandchildren, Brad and Sarah Nitz.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
