Rites Held For Rosemary Nielsen

Rosemary L. Nielsen, of Dike, passed away Monday, July 26, at the Western Home in Cedar Falls having attained the age of 79 years, 10 months and 21 days.

Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 28, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Dike at 11 a.m. with Fr. Daniel Knipper officiating.

Pallbearers were Jason Nielsen, Jonathan Nielsen, Andrew Nielsen, Chris Nielsen, Arthur Lupkes and Joshua Lupkes.

Burial followed in Elmwood Cemetery in Dike.

A memorial fund has been established.

Rosemary Lucy Nielsen was born September 5, 1913, in Peoria, Illinois, the daughter of Charles and Lucy (Dalton) Charvat. She received her education in Chicago, and graduated from high school in 1932. Following graduation, Rosemary managed a paint store in Chicago.

On January 2, 1943, she was united in marriage to Russell Nielsen in Chicago, Illinois. Rosemary and Russell made their home in Dike, where Rosemary was a homemaker and bookkeeper for her husband. She became a resident of the Western Home in March of 1992.

Rosemary was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church of St. Mary's Altar Society, as well as of the American Legion Auxiliary.

She was preceded in death by her parents and one brother, Frank Charvat.

Survivors include her husband, Russell; 2 sons, Charles and wife Diane of Bettendorf, and Timothy and wife Margaret of Dike; 1 step-daughter, Pat Schuler and husband John of Janesville, WI; 9 grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren; 1 great-grandchild; and 3 step-great-grandchildren.

The Dike Funeral Chapel in Dike was in charge of the arrangements.
