George C. Saathoff, 72, of Coggon, Iowa died July 31, 2008 at his home following a farm-related accident.

Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., Monday, August 4, 2008 at the Peace Lutheran Church in Ryan by Rev. Roger McKinstry. Family will greet friends from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, Sunday, August 3, 2008 at the Bohnenkamp-Murdoch Funeral Home and Cremation Service in Manchester and one hour before services Monday at the church. Burial will be in the Elmwood Cemetery in Dike.

George was born October 31, 1935 in Grundy Center, the son of Arend and Freeda (Oltmanns) Saathoff. He attended country school near his home and graduated from Dike High School in 1954. George served with the U.S. Army in Germany. On June 2, 1961, he was united in marriage to Lanette (Jane) Werkman at Holland, Iowa. George worked for Carnation Milk in Waterloo, Eastern Iowa Breeders Association, a spot welder for Rockwell Collins in Cedar Rapids for 25 years, and spent a life-time farming.

George was a member of Peace Lutheran Church, Ryan. He enjoyed tractor-cades and being a support driver for RAGBRAI. He enjoyed visiting with old and new friends he met in his adventures.

George is survived by his wife, Lanette Saathoff of Coggon; three children, Karla (Bruce) Gundermann of Westbrook, MN, Kevin Saathoff of Ryan, and Kelly (Missy) Saathoff of Akron, IA; two brothers, Arnold (Martha) Saathoff and Harold (Doris) Saathoff of Dike; four grandchildren, Kallie & Eli Gundermann and Lauryn & Kelsey Saathoff; and numerous nieces and nephews.

George was preceded in death by his parents, Arend and Freeda Saathoff.
