Lawrence Mark Services Held

Lawrence Edward Mark, of Dike, died Wednesday, May 6, at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo of natural causes. He attained the age of 81 years, 3 months and 8 days.

Funeral services were held on Friday, May 8, at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church of Dike. Burial followed in the Elmwood Cemetery in Dike. Pastor Rick Johnson officiated. A memorial fund has been established.

Lawrence was born on January 28, 1917, in Fairview Township, Shelby County, near Avoca, the son of Fred and Marie (Wasser) Mark. He was united in marriage to Harriet Della Harris on October 17, 1936, at Rockport, Missouri. He worked for the World Tribune newspaper in Wichita, Kansas after marriage. Later they moved back to Avoca to farm. They then moved to rural Weldon to purchase a farm. They moved to Dike in 1950 and farmed the Harry Heisler farm until 1961, when they moved to their new home in Dike. Lawrence farmed an 80 acre farm he purchased south of Dike. He did custom hauling and was a rural mail carrier until his retirement.

Lawrence was a member of the Masonic Lodge #646 of Dike and the Dike United Methodist Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his wife, Harriet of Dike; 2 daughters, Anna Marie and her husband Carl Campbell of Waterloo and Phyllis and her husband Fred Hersey of Waterloo; 3 grandchildren; 4 great-grandchildren; and 1 brother, Gale Mark of Avoca.

Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements.
