Lewis E. Luitjens, 93

Lewis E. Luitjens, 93, of Dike, passed away Saturday, Sept. 30, 2000, at the Grundy Care Center, Grundy Center, of natural causes.

Funeral services were held on Tuesday, Oct. 3, at 11 a.m. at the Dike United Methodist Church in Dike. Burial followed in the Elmwood Cemetery in Dike. Pastor Rick Johnson officiated. Memorials may be directed to Grundy County Hospice or to the family.

Lewis was born on February 5, 1907 in Melrose Township in rural Grundy County, the son of Henry and Matie (Kluver) Luitjens. He was united in marriage to Minnie Meyer on Feb. 12, 1930, in Waverly. Minnie preceded him in death on Jan. 11, 2000. Lewis was a life-long farmer in the Dike area and he enjoyed nature. He was a member of the Dike United Methodist Church.

Survivors include three daughters and their husbands: Betty and Clem Kofron of Lime Springs, Bonnie and Roger Behrens of Horseshoe Bend, AK and Darlene and Ron Itzen of Grundy Center; a son-in-law, Larry Bruhn of New Hartford; 10 grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.

Lewis was preceded in death by his wife, Minnie; his parents; daughter, Carol Bruhn; and one sister, Dena Walters.

Dike Funeral Chapel in Dike was in charge of the arrangements.
