Services Slated Wednesday For Flip Freese

Floyd R. "Flip" Freese, 51, of Dike, passed away Sunday, November 27 at 3:15 p.m. at Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo after suffering a stroke at his home Saturday.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, November 23, at 1:30 p.m. at the United Methodist Church, Dike. Burial will be in Elmwood Cemetery, in Dike.

He is survived by his wife, Donna; two sons, Scott of R1, Hudson and Steve at home; one daughter, Stacey, at home; three sisters, Mrs. Ben (Gladys) VanLengen of Steamboat Rock, Mrs. Melvin (Esther) Purvis of Palmetto Beach, FL; and Mrs. Charles (Ethel) Rhoads Jr. of Grundy Center; and three brothers, Arthur and Richard Freese of Dike and LeRoy Freese of Cedar Falls.

A memorial fund has been established. Public visitation at the Dike Funeral Chapel will be until 11:30 a.m. Wednesday and at the church prior to services.

Services Held For Flip Freese

Floyd R. "Flip" Freese passed away at 3:15 p.m. Sunday, November 27 at the Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo.

Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church in Dike on Wednesday, November 30 at 1:30 p.m. Pastor James F. Hanke officiated.

"How Great Thou Art" was the organ-piano duet rendered by Mrs. John Paige and Mrs. Duane Habben. They also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude. The congregation sang "Amazing Grace."

Casket bearers were Robert Christensen, Gary Andersen, Keith Klar, Carl Ellison, David Jones and Robert Cutsforth.

Ushers were John Paige, Duane Habben and Mervin Andersen. Mrs. Margaret Christensen, Mrs. Jan Klar, Mrs. Doris Roberts and Mrs. Marcia Andersen were in charge of the floral arrangements.

Interment was in the Elmwood Cemetery, Dike, where flag presentation ceremonies were conducted by the Dike American Legion Post #471.

Relatives and friends were invited to return to the church following the committal services for a period of Christian fellowship and refreshments.

Mr. Freese was born October 4, 1932 at Aplington, the son of Riebke and Effie Gieken Freese. He attained the age of 51 years, one month and 23 days. He attended grade school in Holland, and when he was 15 years old his family moved to Steamboat Rock where he graduated from high school in 1951. He then attended and graduated from Ellsworth College.

He served his country in the Army during the Korean Conflict, serving 18 months in Japan. After his service time, he lived in Cedar Falls.

On September 7, 1957, he was united in marriage to Donna Jacobson at the First Methodist Church in Cedar Falls. After their marriage they lived in Cedar Falls until August of 1962 when they moved and made their home in Dike.

He worked for 18 years in the office at Viking Pump in Cedar Falls and in 1978 became the owner and operator of Flip's Westside in Dike and ran it until the time of his death.

He was a member of the Dike United Methodist Church and sang in the church choir. He was also a member of the Dike Lions Club and was presently the Tail Twister. He was a member of the Danish Brotherhood and the Dike American Legion Post.

He was preceded in death by his father and mother, step-mother, two brothers, three sisters and one infant sister.

He is survived by his wife, Donna; two sons, Scott, R1, Hudson, and Steve at home; also one daughter, Stacey, at home; also three sisters, Mrs. Ben (Gladys) VanLengen of Steamboat Rock, Mrs. Melvin (Esther) Purvis of Palmetto Beach, FL; and Mrs. Charles (Ethel) Rhoads, Grundy Center; and three brothers, Arthur and Richard of Dike and LeRoy of Cedar Falls.

A memorial fund has been established. The Dike Funeral Chapel in Dike was in charge of the arrangements.
