Mrs. McKinder Dies Suddenly

Mrs. Charles (Hattie) McKinder of 527 Main St., Dike, passed away suddenly and very unexpectedly last Friday evening. Mrs. McKinder passed away at the Sartori hospital, Cedar Falls, at 10:10 p.m. of an apparent heart attack after being admitted to the hospital just a few hours before. Her death occurred on July 26, the day of her 81st birthday.

Funeral services were held at the United Methodist Church at Dike on Tuesday afternoon, July 30. The Rev. Joseph Sibert officiated at the 1:30 p.m. service in the absence of Rev. Hoover who is on vacation.

Vocalist Mrs. James Willms sang "The Old Rugged Cross" and "Rock of Ages." Accompanist was Mrs. John Paige who also played selected numbers for the prelude and postlude.

Ushers were Jack Heritage and John Mulder. Flower attendants were Mrs. Roger Davis and Lori Davis. Pallbearers were John Padget, Donald DeBower, Wayne Rathbone, Donald E. Knudsen, Russell Stickley and John Paige. Burial was in the Elmwood cemetery, Dike. The Dike Funeral Chapel was in charge of the arrangements which included viewing at the Chapel on Sunday and Monday.

The Grant Rebekah Lodge held Memorial services at the Chapel on Monday evening.

Hattie McCart was born July 26, 1893, in Humeston, Iowa, the daughter of George and Emma Amy McCart. She was married to Charles McKinder in Humeston on Jan. 5, 1916. Shortly thereafter they moved to Dike. Mr. McKinder later barbered, retiring in 1961. During the last few years they have spent every other winter in California with their son.

Mrs. McKinder was a member of the United Methodist Church and a 32 year member of the Grant Rebekah Lodge No. 305.

Survivors include her husband; one son, Keith, of Glendale, Calif.; one daughter, Mrs. Glenn (Veva) DeBower of rural Janesville; one sister, Mrs. Jennie Padget of 1047 Kern St., Waterloo; 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters and one brother.
