Lester "Les" L. Meewes, 66, of 4450 Westchester Dr. NE, died Monday, Dec. 11, 2000, in St. Luke's Hospital after a short illness. Services: 11 a.m. Thursday, Lovely Lane United Methodist Church, where friends may call after 10 a.m. Thursday. The Rev. Brian Milford will officiate. Private family burial: Dike Cemetery, Dike. Cedar Memorial Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Survivors include his wife, Norma; a son, Brad and wife Kori of Minneapolis; two daughters, Cindy Wilson and husband Rod of Ankeny and Penny Roberts of Tama; his mother, Lucille of Dike; and a brother, Ralph of Melbourne, Fla. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Pat Miller.

Les was born Nov. 6, 1934, in Reinbeck, the son of Russell and Lucille Wickens Meewes. He graduated from UNI and received his master's degree from the University of Iowa. He married Norma J. Andersen on June 27, 1954, in Dike. Les was a contract administrator at Rockwell for 30 years, retiring in 1989. He was a member of Lovely Lane United Methodist Church and Grasshopper Golf Club. He served in the Army during the Korean War and enjoyed playing cards with family and friends.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given to the Discovery Cancer Store in Les' name.
