Mary Buhman, 30, Dies Of Cancer

Miss Mary M. Buhman, age 30, rural Reinbeck, died at 2 p.m. Friday, August 2 at the Grundy County Memorial hospital in Grundy Center from cancer.

Memorial services were held Monday at 1:30 p.m. in the First Baptist church in Grundy Center with Rev. J. C. Ford and Rev. Ray Richardson officiating. Mrs. Jake Buskohl played "How Great Thou Art" and "Does Jesus Care" as musical interludes and also prelude and postlude selections. Stephen Burr and Homer Long were ushers. Floral arrangements were attended by Mrs. Clarence Stille and Mrs. Marietta Stone.

Casketbearers were Charles Brocka, Stephen Richardson, Fred Bridges, David Epley, Edward Paulson and Craig Johnson. Burial was in the Elmwood cemetery at Dike.

Mary was born May 15, 1944 at Waterloo, Iowa, the daughter of John H. and Marcella Boldt Buhman. She attended her first year of school in Grant No. 8 and then continued her education thru 7th grade in the Reinbeck school system. From 8th thru 12 she was a student in the Dike Community school where she graduated in 1962. She was employed in Waverly from 1963 to August 1, 1972. At that time she entered the Faith Baptist Bible college at Ankeny where she was a student until April, 1974. She became a patient at the Lutheran hospital in Des Moines and in June returned to her home at Reinbeck. She had been confined to the Grundy hospital 21 days before her death. Mary was a member of the Missionary Baptist church at Carlisle.

Survivors are her parents; her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Ella Buhman of Reinbeck; one brother, David of Grand Rapids, Mich.; two sisters, Mrs. Paul (Margaret) Doddema of rural Dike, and Marian at home; also her fiance Ken Sherlock of Ankeny.

The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home, Grundy Center, was in charge of arrangements.
