Rites Held For Mayme Martens

Mayme M. Martens, 93, of Cedar Falls, formerly of Dike, died Friday, February 25, at University of Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City of natural causes.

Funeral services were held Monday, February 28, at 1:30 p.m. at the First Christian Church in Cedar Falls with burial in Elmwood Cemetery, Dike.

Memorials may be directed to the Dike Volunteer Fire Department.

Mayme was born May 31, 1900, in Cass County, the daughter of Detlef and Mary Abhau Martens. She had lived in Dike for many years prior to moving to the Windermere Retirement Community in Cedar Falls this past July. She had worked in food service at Drake University and the Maternity Hospital both in Des Moines. Mayme then worked for the University of Northern Iowa food service in Cedar Falls from 1935 to her retirement in 1965.

She was a member of the First Christian Church in Cedar Falls.

She was preceded in death by six brothers and five sisters.

Survivors include 19 nieces and nephews and numerous great nieces and nephews.
