Funeral Services Wednesday For Nita Kappelman

Funeral services were held yesterday, Wednesday, April 5, 1978 for Mrs. Nita Kappelman, 81, of 226 Second Street, Dike. The 1:30 p.m. services were at the United Methodist Church, Dike. Burial was in the Elmwood Cemetery, Dike.

Mrs. Kappelman passed away at the Sartori Memorial Hospital, Cedar Falls at 10:15 a.m. Sunday morning after suffering a heart attack at her home in Dike.

The Rev. James Hanke officiated at the services. Mrs. John Paige played organ interludes of "How Great Thou Art" and "In The Garden" and selected prelude and postlude numbers. Ushers were John Mulder and Albert Lauterbach. Casketbearers were Michael Jans, Allan Butler, Lo Wayne Kinzebach, Russell Roberts, Donald Janssen and Gregory Roberts. Lilas Schmidt and Mrs. Lyman Knudsen had charge of the floral arrangements. Friends who provided cars for the family were John Paige, Laurence Koch and Ralph Immings.

Friends and relatives were invited to return to the Fellowship Hall at the church for a time of fellowship and coffee following the committal graveside services.

Nita was born June 19, 1896, the daughter of George C. and Jennie Bridgefarmer in Helsey, Oregon. She had attained the age of 81 years, 9 months, and 13 days. On Sept. 24, 1918 near Dike she was united in marriage to Edward Henry Frank Kappelman. They lived in Dike. Some years later she started the Barn Cafe and was co-owner. On May 15, 1950 her husband passed away and then shortly after she sold the cafe, but continued to work there until 1968 when she retired.

Mrs. Kappelman was one of the oldest living members of the United Methodist Church, Dike and a member of the Dike American Legion Auxiliary.

She is survived by one daughter, Gail Silverthorne, Dike; two sisters, Mrs. Harold (Lorena) Johnson of Washburn and Mrs. Burl (Jennie) Brown of Albuquerque, N.M. and two grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great-granddaughter. Preceded in death by her parents, husband, and two brothers.

A memorial fund has been established.

The Dike Funeral Chapel who were in charge of the arrangements held viewing at the Chapel Tuesday and Wednesday morning until 11:30 a.m. when the body was taken to the church for viewing prior to the services.
