Dike Farmer Dies Saturday While Husking Corn
Thomas Johnson, well known farmer in northeast Grundy, died very suddenly last Saturday while he was husking corn on the Ed Boysen farm near Dike. A heart attack was the cause of his death.
County Coroner L. D. Coffman was notified. After learning the details of the man's death, he regarded an inquest not necessary and permitted the body to be taken to the Dahl funeral home at Cedar Falls where it was prepared for burial.
Funeral services were held in the Methodist church at Dike on Tuesday afternoon. The services were conducted by the local pastor, Rev. J. F. Prichard. Burial was in the Dike cemetery.
Thomas A. Johnson was born May 24, 1875, at Jacksonville, in Morgan county, Ill., the son of Hiram and Susannah Johnson. He was married to Miss Lucy Devore in Illinois Sept. 8, 1896. To this union four children were born: Mrs. Jake Alberts, Ross Johnson and Thomas Jr., all of Dike, and Harvey Johnson of Chicago.
He farmed in Illinois for twelve years before moving to Kansas, where he lived five years. In 1917 he came to Iowa and lived for ten years on a farm southwest of Dike. In 1928 he retired from farming and moved to Dike to make his home.
He leaves besides his widow, three sons and one daughter, and four grandchildren; three brothers and three sisters: John Johnson of Cedar Falls, Mark and Marcus Johnson, twin brothers living at Hull, Ill., Mrs. Mary Reynolds of Jackson, Mich., Mrs. Grace Myers of Manchester, Ill., Mrs. R. M. Alexander of Athensonville, Ill. One brother and one sister preceded him in death.
