Henry W. Dubbert Dead

H. W. Dubbert passed away at his home in Dike Monday morning, Aug. 4th, 1919, at about 9 o'clock, after being unconscious most of the time for a week or more. Hardening of the arteries and liver caused his death.

Since moving to Dike about three years ago, Mr. Dubbert has suffered a few weeks at intervals, when he would feel quite well and be able to get down town or ride out to the farm, but most of the time he has only been able to sit on the porch.

But during all that suffering, he had been very patient and never did any complaining, was always cheerful and ready to visit with this friends who were many, some of whom was always calling to see him. Mr. Dubbert had lived here 38 years, and there probably isn't a more widely known man in the vicinity who has been here that length of time or one who had more friends--friends who were concerned about his welfare and visited regularly and frequently at the hospitable Dubbert home. He threshed for several seasons, and this brought him into most of the neighborhoods of the county. When a man has lived for 38 years in one neighborhood, and one can't hear a word against him from these neighbors, he must be a good, honest, neighborly and upright man. Such a man was Mr. Dubbert.

Henry William Dubbert was born at Baileyville, Ill., Dec. 15, 1855, son of Henry and Minnie Dubbert, early settlers in Illinois. He came to Iowa when 25 or 26 years of age and settled in Grundy county in this immediate neighborhood. December 21, 1884, he was married to Miss Mary Koch. They lived on their farm south of town till the fall of 1916, when they moved into Dike because of continued poor health.

Besides the wife, six sisters and two brothers are left. Father, mother and one brother preceded him in death. The sisters are: Mrs. Helen Runte, Freeport, Ill., Mrs. Matilda Runte, Ashton, Iowa, Mrs. William Vitiner of Claremont, S.D., Minnie, Bertha and Elizabeth of Freeport, Ill., Louis of Freeport and William of Baileyville, Ill.
