Last Rites for Mrs. Mary Boike

Funeral services were held at the Dike Methodist Church Saturday afternoon, Oct. 8, for Mary Franzen Boike. Mrs. Boike passed away Tuesday morning, Oct. 4, at the Grundy Memorial hospital of a heart condition, having been a patient there for 12 days.

Rev. Robert Crum was in charge of the services. Mr. and Mrs. Marvin Graves who sang were accompanied by Mrs. Joe Bohr. Mrs. Anne Lynn, Mrs. Nita Kappelman, Mrs. Elmer Tobias and Mrs. Sig Stage were in charge of the flowers. Pallbearers were Mr. Gaylen Stewart, Erhart Andersen, Ted Gerdes, Jack Heritage, John Paige and Roger Stage. Burial was in Elmwood cemetery near Dike.

Mary was born on July 19, 1899, the daughter of Alvina and August Posekany, at Elberon, Iowa. She married Albert Franzen on Dec. 3, 1919. To this union was born one son, Albert, Jr., who died in infancy, and three daughters: Mrs. Lyman Knudsen (Sylvia) of Waterloo, Mrs. Verner Sloth (Lilas) of Reinbeck and Mrs. Andrew Cannegieter (Evelyn) also of Reinbeck.

Mr. Franzen died on March 20, 1949. Mary was married to Henry Boike on Oct. 4, 1953. He died on June 5, 1956.

Surviving besides the three daughters named above she leaves a step-son, Harmon Boike; four brothers, Charles and Lester of Dike, Leonard of Reinbeck, and Ralph of New Hartford, five sisters, Mrs. Jerome Landau of Cedar Falls, Mrs. Leroy Waterson of Waterloo, Mrs. Leonard Bast of Waverly, Mrs. Earl Hast of Nashua and Mrs. Paul Hanlon of Anaheim, Calif.; and 11 grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; one son, Albert, Jr.; and one sister, Margaret.

Mrs. Boike was a member of the Dike Methodist Church, the W.S.C.S., the Dike American Legion Auxiliary, the Grant Rebekah Lodge and the Grant Homemakers. She lived in Grundy County most of her life.
