Will Behrends Dies In South Dakota
Will Behrends, a former Wellsburg resident, died suddenly on Wednesday, May 1st, of a heart attack at the Veterans hospital at Hot Springs, South Dakota. He had entered the hospital on Friday, April 26. He attained the age of 78 years, 4 months and 22 days.
Mr. Behrends was born on Dec. 9, 1895 on a farm south of Wellsburg in Shiloh township, Grundy County, Iowa, to Mr. and Mrs. Henricus Behrends.
In 1920 he was united in marriage to Miss Grace Kuper at the Wellsburg Reformed Church parsonage by Rev. Wm. Landsiedel. Following their marriage they moved to a farm at Lennox, South Dakota. In 1945 Mr. and Mrs. Behrends moved from the farm to Lennox and he was employed at various jobs. He was a veteran of World War I. Mrs. Behrends preceded him in death in 1970.
Survivors are two sons, Harris of Mission, South Dakota and Wendall of Rapid City, South Dakota, and one daughter, Mrs. John (Esther) De Belts of Lennox, South Dakota; one brother, Henry Behrends of Stout; and one sister, Miss Sadie Behrends of Wellsburg. Also surviving are eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.
On January 9 of this year Mr. Behrends went to the Veterans Home at Hot Springs to make his home.
Besides his wife he was preceded in death by his parents, twin infant daughters and one brother, Ben Behrends.
Attending funeral services were Mr. and Mrs. Edwin Behrends, Miss Sadie Behrends, Will Loger, and Mrs. John Ohling of Wellsburg; also Mrs. Henry Behrends of Stout and Mr. and Mrs. Matthew Loger of Holland. Funeral services were conducted at Dindot and Sons Funeral Home at Lennox, South Dakota on Saturday forenoon. Interment was at Lennox.
