Charles Marquardt Dies at Veterans' Hospital Sunday

Charles Marquardt, resident of this vicinity for most of his life, died of a heart ailment at the Veterans' hospital in Des Moines Sunday afternoon. He had been in failing health for the last two and a half years.

Mr. Marquardt was born April 10, 1894 in New York, and he reached the age of 59 years and 16 days.

He was raised by his foster parents, Mr. and Mrs. John Finke of Grundy county. On February 28, 1934 he was united in marriage to Miss Ann VanHeiden. Mr. and Mrs. Marquardt farmed south of Ackley until 1941, at which time they moved into Ackley.

Mr. Marquardt was a veteran of World War I.

He is survived by his widow; two brothers, Emil of Waterloo, and Will of New York; and one sister, Mrs. Margaret Wise of Waterloo; his foster mother, Mrs. John Finke; two foster brothers and six foster sisters.

Funeral services were held at Brandt's Funeral Home at 1:15 and the Evangelical United Brethren church at 1:30 p.m., with the Rev. A. K. Henning officiating. Interment was in Oakwood cemetery.

Elliott-Keninger American Legion Post conducted military rites.
