John Schmidt Of Reinbeck Died Tuesday Evening
Word has been received here that John Schmidt of Reinbeck passed away Tuesday evening at his home at 11:20 p.m. of a stroke. He had been ill for a number of weeks and had been confined to the Grundy Co. Memorial hospital and the hospital at Iowa City. Mr. Schmidt was 59 years of age.
Funeral services will be held Friday afternoon, April 27, at 1:00 o'clock at the Congregational church in Reinbeck. Burial will be held at Byron, Illinois.
Survivors include his wife; his mother, Mrs. C. J. Schmidt of Wellsburg; one sister, Mrs. Charles Claus of Peoria, Illinois; also two brothers, Leonard Schmidt and George C. Schmidt of Wellsburg.

Former Wellsburg Resident, John Schmidt, Is Dead
John Schmidt, former Wellsburg resident, died at his home in Reinbeck Tuesday evening following a lingering illness. He was 59 years old at the time of his death.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. Friday in the Congregational church at Reinbeck. Burial will be held on Saturday at Byron, Ill.
Mr. Schmidt had suffered the past several months from a brain tumor, and had sought medical attention at the University hospitals in Iowa City. However, his death Tuesday night was caused by a stroke.
John Schmidt was born in 1896 on a farm in Colfax township, the son of Mr. and Mrs. C. J. Schmidt. He was reared and educated in the Colfax township and Wellsburg area.
His widow is the former Helen Bunn, whom he married while she was a teacher at the Wellsburg school.
Mr. Schmidt was employed for several years by the Beving Hardware in Wellsburg. In 1939 the couple moved to Reinbeck where they purchased a hardware store, and where they continued to live until he was fatally stricken.
Survivors include the widow; his mother, Mrs. C. J. Schmidt of Wellsburg; a sister, Mrs. Charles Claus, Peoria, Ill.; and two brothers, George and Leonard, both of Wellsburg. The couple had no children.
