Mal Frye Succumbs In Ill.
Mal Frye, former bank president of Peoples Savings Bank in Wellsburg, passed away at his home in Hanover, IL, Thursday, July 15 of cancer, which he had suffered with for slightly over one year.
He was born Mallam Robert Frye on October 6, 1928, in Long Beach, CA, the son of Frank J. and Doris (nee Prior) Frye.
Mal graduated from the Riverside Military Academy of California in 1948. After graduation he joined the United States Army Security Agency from 1948-53. In 1950 he graduated from Army Language School at Presidio at Monterey California with a degree in Russian.
After his military service he attended the University of Southern California (U.S.C.), graduating with Cum Laude honors with a B.A. in International Economics on June 1, 1956.
On September 14, 1972 he was united in marriage to Miss Ursula Schaeffer in Evanston, IL.
Mal served as Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in the banks of Preston, IA, Thomson, IL and the Gateway State Bank in Clinton, IA, before coming to Peoples Saving Bank in Wellsburg in May of 1988. He retired December 31, 1991, and returned to their home in rural Hanover, IL.
Mal enjoyed radio operated airplanes, antiques and ham radios. He also enjoyed racquetball, fishing, hunting and tennis, until it became difficult due to his illness.
Preceding him in death was his mother, Mrs. Doris Frye.
He is survived by his wife, Ursula, and three children, Stephen Frye of Knoxville, TN, Wendy (Mrs. Kim Hawley) of Island Lake, IL, and Melissa Frye of Chicago, IL; also one sister, Mrs. Frances Drake of Shaver Lake, CA.
After cremation, private family services will be held at a later date in Chicago.
