Wm. M. Ross Rites Held

William M. Ross of 501 8th Street, Grundy Center, died at the Grundy County Memorial Hospital at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 1977.

Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Bethany Presbyterian Church. Rev. Calvin W. Vanderwerf officiated. Mrs. Raymond Appel played organ interludes, "How Great Thou Art" and "In The Garden" as well as prelude and postlude selections.

Pallbearers were Donald Ross, LuVerne Ross, Donald Huisman, Raymond Huisman, Homer Ross and Joe D. Ross. Mrs. Bill Harken and Mrs. Vernon Klosterboer took care of the flowers. Ushers were Edward Flater and Lloyd Dreesman. Burial was in Rose Hill cemetery, Grundy Center. Following the committal service friends and relatives returned to the church for fellowship and lunch.

Mr. Ross was born February 9, 1897, near Wellsburg, Iowa and attained the age of 80 years, one month and 21 days. He was the son of Martin A. and Doris Sievers Ross. He grew up on a farm five miles northwest of Wellsburg and attended rural schools. Mr. Ross was in the U.S. Army during World War I. On March 5, 1923 he was united in marriage to Grace Hook at Wellsburg. Following their marriage they farmed in Grundy county until December 1955 when the family moved to Grundy Center. Mr. Ross was a member of the Bethany Presbyterian Church, had served as an elder, and was a deacon in the Second Christian Reformed Church at Wellsburg several years ago. He was a member of World War I Barracks of Grundy county.

Survivors include his wife Grace, five daughters, Mrs. Johannes (Mavis) Meester of Holland, Mrs. Roy (Berniece) Groote of Dike, Mrs. Paul (Margery) Bakker of Rock Valley, Iowa, Mrs. Leland (Marian) Langenberg of Urbandale, and Mrs. Glen (Patricia) Lage of Holland; also one sister, Mrs. Jerry (Nettie) Huisman of Grundy Center, four brothers, Sam and Gratus Ross of Wellsburg, Joe Ross, Sr. and Martin Ross of Grundy Center, 20 grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

A memorial fund has been established. The Engelkes-Abels Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
