Mrs. Ben Holland, 59, Dies In Hospital; Services Scheduled Thursday In Gilman
Mrs. Ben Holland, 59, of Gilman, died early Tuesday morning at St. Thomas Mercy hospital where she had been a patient since Sept. 28. She had been in failing health for two years and death was of complication of diseases.
Mrs. Holland was born Ada Belle Modlin, June 16, 1889, in Hardin county. Most of her life was spent there. In 1908 she was married to Simon Kinney and they lived in the Ivester neighborhood. Mr. Kinney died in 1929. On Oct. 8, 1939, she married to Ben Holland and they lived near LeGrand for two years before moving to Gilman where they have since resided.
She was an active member of the Ivester church of the Brethren, Onyx Chapter No. 350, O.E.S. of Gilman and the Twentieth Century club of Gilman.
Surviving besides the widower are a son, Wayne Kinney of Gifford, a daughter, Mrs. E. C. Perisho of Marshalltown, three step-children, Mrs. Roy Meyers of Moline, Ill.; Mrs. S. M. Whaler of Balboa, Canal Zone and Ed Holland of Gilman; two sisters, Mrs. Lily Lord of Belmond and Mrs. Homer Card of Steamboat Rock, and three brothers, Orvie and Obbie Modlin of Grundy Center and Frank Modlin of Van Nuys, Calif. One grandchild also survives.
Services will be held at the Gilman Community church at 2 p.m. Thursday in charge of Rev. Jacob Askeland and Rev. Raymond Hartsough. Burial will be in the Friends cemetery at LeGrand. The body will be at the Estel funeral home until 10 a.m. Thursday.
