Services Saturday For Alfred Kruschwitz, 80

Funeral services for Alfred O. Kruschwitz, 80, will be held Saturday, March 12 at 10:30 a.m. at the Ivester Church of the Brethren east of Eldora. Mr. Kruschwitz died Sunday at the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines after a lengthy illness.

Rev. Phil and Rev. Louise Rieman will officiate at the services, with vocal music provided by Jan Fiscus, Lois Kruse and Pearl Miller with Karen Cakerice as organist. Flower ladies will be Vicki Draper, Ronda Neher and Linda Smith.

Casket bearers will be Kevin Kruschwitz, Linnea Brunk, Kristine Smith, Kyle Kruschwitz, Steven Brunk, Brian Kruschwitz, Karin Brunk, and Carolina Kruschwitz with interment in the Sheller Cemetery. A memorial fund has been established. Andrle and Creps Funeral Home of Eldora is handling arrangements.

Alfred Kruschwitz was born on a farm near Kesley in Butler county on November 9, 1907, the son of Ernst and Mabelle Linn Kruschwitz. He attended school in Franklin county until his family moved to Binford, North Dakota in 1916.

He completed high school in Valley City, N.D. and received a teaching certificate from Valley City State Teachers' College. He taught rural school for two years in Linton, N.D. before he came to Iowa where he began his farming career in 1931 in Grundy county.

He married Wilma Albright on June 1, 1932 at the Ivester Church of the Brethren. He moved his membership to the Ivester Church in 1933 where he was a Sunday school teacher, church board member and life-time deacon. He was an active farmer for over 40 years.

During that time, he served for a number of years as a director for the Butler-Grundy Farm Service, as secretary of the Palermo No. 4 school district, and as a township trustee. In 1973 he retired from active farming and he and his wife moved from their Palermo township farm to an acreage in Melrose township.

He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Harry, Carl and Levi; and two sisters, Esther and Marie.

He is survived by his wife; three brothers, Reuben of Moorhead, Minn., Stanley and his wife, Mae, of Burwell, Nebraska, and Earl of Valley City, N.D.; one sister, Irma Schuler of Valley City; two sons and two daughters-in-law, Forrest and LaVonne Kruschwitz of Grundy Center, Dohn and Clarice Kruschwitz of Conrad; one daughter and son-in-law, LaDonna and Ron Brunk of Eldora and eight grandchildren.
