Aged Melrose Citizen Called

Robert Kinney Many Years Resident of Melrose called March 7th

Robert Kinney was born October 1, 1853, in Columbia county, Pennsylvania, and died in Melrose township, Grundy county, Iowa, March 7th, 1919, aged 65 years, 5 months and 6 days. His early years were spent in Pennsylvania, coming to Iowa when 26 years of age and settled in Grundy county near Dike.

He was married to Lydia Della Reisinger in 1882. To this union were born four children, Simon, Irvin, Rebecca and Glenn. All the children are living in the community.

The deceased located in Melrose township 27 years ago and here the children grew to their maturity.

He was converted and united with the Church of the Brethren of Ivester, 26 years ago, and passed away strong in Christian faith. He was a public spirited man and always took an active part in the welfare of his community and was held in high esteem by all who knew him.

He became seriously ill with paralysis, October 31, 1918, and from that date grew weaker till the end came. During the many weeks of his illness and confinement he manifested a spirit of fortitude and patience that was an inspiration to all who came in to see him. This helped to cheer his children by his wonderful courage and hopefulness. Death came as a relief from pain, but it leaves those near and dear to mourn the loss of a loving father. His wife died September 15, 1915. He is survived also by four grandchildren, Wayne, Leona and Cecil Kinney and Orval Walton. Also four brothers and two sisters, Bert Kinney, Burwick, Pa.; Wilson and Woodward Kinney, Milleville, Pa.; Thomas Kinney, Milton, Pa.; Mrs. Anna Kisner, Milleville, Pa.; and Mrs. Emma Dawson, Burwick, Pa.

The funeral was conducted from the home at 1:00 p.m. Sunday, March 9th, and the public services held in the Ivester house, by the pastor, D. W. Shock. Burial in the family lot in the cemetery two miles north.
