Elvira Griffith Frederick

Elvira Griffith Frederick was born in Sommerset county, Penn., June 9, 1839 and departed this life Feb. 25, 1918, aged 78 years, 8 months and 16 days.

She was united in marriage to Cornelious Frederick, Dec. 3, 1867. In April 1868 they moved on a farm in Grundy county, eight miles west of Grundy Center. To this union was born one daughter, Mrs. Seatta L. Doak at whose home she passed away. There are also two grandchildren, Mrs. L. J. Stambaugh and Linn Doak. One brother and one sister live in Pennsylvania.

About sixty years ago Sister Frederick united with the Church of the Brethren and remained a faithful and devoted Christian to the last.

In 1885 they left the farm and moved into Grundy Center where they spent 29 years. When the home was broken up by the death of the husband and father, she made her home with her daughter, Mrs. J. P. Doak, most of the time. Her last sickness was of but five days duration, which was diabetes, a disease that afflicted her for several years.

"Unveil thy bosom, faithful tomb;
Take this new treasure to thy trust,
And give these sacred relics room
To slumber in the silent dust.

The dear Lord's best interpreters
Are humble human souls;
The gospel of a life like hers
Is more than books or scrolls."

The funeral services were conducted in the home Thursday at 1:00 o'clock, February 28, 1918, D. W. Shock, the local pastor in charge. Burial services in the family lot in the cemetery two miles north of Ivester.

The pall bearers were F. O. Sheller, George Schwarck, Chris Schwarck, Charles Messer, Adam Messer and Stanley Meyers.
