Miss Jennie Gilbert Dead

Highly Respected Woman and Resident of Ivester Neighborhood Passed Away Last Thursday

Grundy friends were shocked last Thursday to learn the death of Miss Jennie Gilbert, one of the most beloved women of the Ivester community. Miss Gilbert had been in poor health much of the time during the past summer, and on Monday of last week was taken to the Deaconess hospital at Marshalltown to have an operation for gall stones. The operation was performed Tuesday but her condition was so serious that it failed to relieve her, and her death occurred Thursday.

The following obituary was furnished the Dispatch by her pastor, Rev. D. H. Keller, of the Ivester church:
Sara Jane Gilbert, daughter of Elder Silas and Frances Gilbert, was born in Montgomery county, Ohio, October 10, 1868, and died at the Deaconess hospital, Marshalltown, Iowa, October 13, 1921; aged fifty-three years and three days.

At the age of two years she moved with her parents to Darke county, Ohio, where she lived until 1895, when the family moved to Grundy county. At the age of sixteen she united with the Church of the Brethren, and lived a faithful and devoted life, portraying beautifully and well the graces of the spiritual life.

For the past eight years with the exception of a few months spent in California, she has made her home with her brother-in-law, Mr. Elias Moats, who with his wife did all for her in the last illness and death that loving hands could do.

She leaves to mourn her departure three brothers and one sister and an aunt, besides a number of relatives and a host of friends. Her parents and three sisters preceded her to the Spirit world.

The funeral services were conducted in the Ivester Church of the Brethren by Elders John H. Cakerice and D. H. Keller, the pastor. Burial was made in the Sheller cemetery.
