L. W. Kennedy, Resident of County Many Years, Is Dead

L. W. Kennedy, who operated farms in Melrose and Shiloh townships for many years, died at 9:30 last Thursday night at the home of his daughter, Mrs. A. E. Propst, near Clemons in Marshall county. He was 84 years old. Infirmities of old age were the cause of his death. His health had been failing gradually during most of the past year.

Funeral services were held at the Ivester church Sunday afternoon in charge of Rev. Frantz, local pastor, and Rev. Brubaker, a former Ivester pastor and now a resident of Des Moines. Burial was in the Sheller cemetery.

Mr. Kennedy was born in Scioto county, Ohio, Sept. 5, 1851. He was 84 years, 7 months and 11 days old at the time of his death.

He came to Iowa when a young man, and had lived in the Ivester community in Grundy county most of his life. He was married to Katherine Albright Feb. 20, 1877. Mrs. Kennedy died Jan. 9, 1911. Mr. Kennedy had made his home with his daughter Julia for over 20 years.

Seven children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Kennedy. A daughter, Urah Mae, who passed away at the age of 3 1/2 years on May 12, 1882; Enoch, the eldest son, died July 24, 1929, at his home in Garrett, Indiana, at the age of 48. The five surviving are Mrs. A. E. Propst, Clemons, Ia., Mrs. Arthur Matheny, Dayton, Va., Mrs. F. A. Fredrickson, Steamboat Rock, J. W. Kennedy, Des Moines, R. W. Kennedy, Marshalltown, 21 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive. When a young man Mr. Kennedy joined the Church of the Brethren, in which faith he lived since.

A short prayer service was held Sunday at 1 o'clock at the Estel funeral home in Marshalltown conducted by Rev. Keedy and the main service was at Ivester. The pallbearers were Frank and Ernie Gohner, Elias and Wesley Moats, Frank Sheller and David Myers. Burial was in the Sheller cemetery.

The children extend thanks for all of the kindnesses shown them.
