Joe Strickler Dies At Advanced Age

Joe Strickler, who spent the greater share of his life on a farm in Grundy county, died Tuesday of last week at the Hardin County Home. Death came after a long illness. He was 91 years old.

Funeral services were held on Thursday afternoon at the Ivester Church of the Brethren, with the Rev. Charles Albin officiating.

Mrs. Marvin Heikens was organist. In charge of flowers were Mrs. Robert Prosser and Mrs. Owen Young. Pallbearers were Robert Prosser, George Platt, Harold Hogle, Ed Anderson, Owen Young and Martin Schwarck. Interment was in the Sheller cemetery.

Joseph Francis Strickler was born to Joseph R. and Phildelia Wilder Strickler Sept. 23, 1867, in Melrose township, Grundy county, Iowa. He was born and reared on the old homestead now owned by his sister, Mrs. Eva Meyers.

He was married to Katy Effie Moore on Dec. 21, 1892. To this union was born one daughter, Mrs. Beulah Claassen of Eldora. Mrs. Strickler passed away on March 17, 1930. Later Mr. Strickler married Lena Fromm, who also passed away on Feb. 10, 1954.

Joe Strickler farmed in Grundy county until 1920, when he and his first wife moved to Eldora and retired. There he served on the town council for two terms.

Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Henry Claassen of Eldora; three sisters, Mrs. Ida Sherbon of Conrad and Mrs. Eva Meyers and Mrs. Jessie Moats of Ivester; 2 grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
