Memorial Services For Thuie Freed, 82

Memorial services for Thuie Adelia Freed, 82, were held on Tuesday, January 7, from the Ivester Church of the Brethren near Eldora with Rev. Phil Rieman and Rev. Louie Rieman officiating.

Mrs. Howard Cakerice was vocalist with Mrs. Charles Kruse as organist. Flower ladies were Mrs. Jay Miller and Mrs. John Dinnes.

Casket bearers were Fred Dinnes, Jay Miller, Dale Callaway, Lee Hogle, Paul Callaway, and Raymond Kirkdorffer with interment in the Sheller Cemetery.

Thuie Freed died Sunday, January 5, at the Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad. She was born October 15, 1903, to Judson and May Whitwood Smith in rural Grundy county. She received her education in the rural school near her home and graduated from Eldora high school. She taught school for a short time in a rural Grundy county school.

On November 26, 1922, she was married to Robert Freed. They established their home and engaged in farming for two years in Hardin county and the remaining years were spent in Melrose township in Grundy county.

They continued in their farming operation until July 9, 1969, when Mr. Freed died. She moved to Eldora where she lived for eight years. Her remaining years were spent as a resident of Oakview.

She was a member of the Ivester Church of the Brethren and was a Sunday School teacher in the primary department for many years. She was an active member in women's fellowship, WCTU, Sunshine and Birthday clubs.

She is survived by her daughters, Mrs. Howard (Katherine) Sheller of Eldora; Betty Freed of Eldora; a son, Judson Freed of Eldora; six grandchildren, Dean and Don Sheller, Nancy Kell, Carolyn Kriz, Charlene Callaway, and Michael Freed; 14 great-grandchildren and one sister, Thelma Osborne of Gladbrook.
