Mrs. Hazel Pence Died Saturday

Mrs. Lawrence E. (Hazel) Pence, 77, of Melrose township, Grundy county, died Saturday, November 5 at Oakview Nursing Home in Conrad.

Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 1:30 p.m. in the Ivester Church of the Brethren with Rev. Herbert Thomas officiating. Burial was in the Sheller cemetery north of the church.

Mrs. Charles Kruse sang "Precious Memories" and was accompanied by Mrs. Howard Cakerice, organist. Casket bearers were Lee Hogel, Evan Price, Verne Smith, Glen Draper, Lloyd Draper and Manly Draper. Mrs. Gerald Hess and Mrs. Virgil Mackie were flower bearers.

The Johnston Funeral Home, Conrad, was in charge of arrangements.

Hazel was born April 28, 1900 to Fred J. Draper Sr. and Lillie Miller Draper in Melrose township, Grundy county, Iowa She spent all of her life in the Ivester community until she entered the Nursing Home in recent months.

On November 11, 1948[sic], she was married to Lawrence E. Pence. She was a member of the Ivester church, the Women's Fellowship and the 4-M Club. Hazel taught rural schools in Grundy county for several years.

She is survived by her husband, two sisters and two brothers, Mrs. Harold (Cynthia) Hogle, Ernest and Fred J. Draper Jr., all of rural Eldora, and Mrs. Marcus (Lillian) Emmons of Clinton. She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother and one sister.
