Last Rites For Leo Freed

Leo Wesley Freed, who was born Feb. 19, 1899, in Grundy county, passed away at the Eldora Memorial hospital at 5:45 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 20, after a lingering illness.

He was the son of George W. and Ida Meyer Freed and had lived in the Ivester community his entire life, being a farmer by occupation.

He was married to Mable Danger on Dec. 16, 1919, and to this union, five children were born: three sons, Harvey, Dale and Lynn; and two daughters, Mrs. Ida Marie Schwarck and Mrs. Genevieve Reents, all of whom are living in the community. Dale and Lynn are at home.

He made his confession of Christ and was baptized in the Ivester Church of the Brethren early in life. He was a devoted husband and father and a friendly neighbor.

He was preceded in death by his father in 1935 and his mother in 1937.

Remaining to bereave his departure are his wife, the five children, a brother Robert, nine grandchildren, and many relatives and friends. Relatives from a distance who attended services were from Albert Lea, Minn., Thompson, Ia., Iowa Falls and Marshalltown.

Memorial services were held at the Ivester church of the Brethren on Wednesday, Sept. 23, with Rev. Charles Albin as clergyman. Interment was in the Sheller Cemetery.

Pall bearers were Oscar Ryan, E. V. Reece, Chester Vigars, A. F. McAllister, Fred Vinton and Herb Palo. Flower ladies were Mrs. Warren Bailey, Mrs. Perry Wiley, Mrs. Dan Turner and Miss Mae Albright. Vocals were by Mrs. John Dinnes and Galen Albright with Mrs. Kenneth Cakerice as pianist.

Driving family cars were J. O. Smith, Linus Doughty, John Essig, Wayne Perkins, Lowell Mossman and Leland Vinton.

Dinner was served to the relatives at the Ivester Church Undercroft by the Cheerful Helpers and Friendly Helpers Sunday school classes. Lunch was served at the home following the services by Mrs. A. F. McAllister, Mrs. Ray McAllister, Mrs. Floyd VanTiger, Mrs. Faye Bates and Mrs. Herb Palo.
