Roy E. Youngberg
Roy E. Youngberg, 88, of New Hartford, Iowa, died Wednesday morning, November 11, 1998 at his home.
He was born on April 11, 1910, near New Hartford, Iowa, the son of Oscar and Marie (Jensen) Youngberg. He attended country school and in New Hartford. He then did farm work in the area and helped at home, taking over the operation of the farm following his father's death.
On October 6, 1940 he was united in marriage to Vopal A. Gowman at the home of her parents in New Hartford. They have lived and farmed all of their married life on the same farm.
Roy was a member of the United Methodist Church in New Hartford and was a member of the Odd Fellows Lodge. He enjoyed woodworking and built the buildings on their farm.
He is survived by his wife, Vopal, their four children, Paul E. Youngberg of New Hartford, Mark T. Youngberg of Parkersburg, Linda K. Youngberg of Cedar Falls and Rodney K. Youngberg of New Hartford; one sister Dorothy Stirling of Clarksville; 9 grandchildren, and 8 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, Carl, Albert and Orvie Youngberg; and by a sister, Marie in infancy.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 14, 1998 at 2:00 p.m. at the United Methodist Church in New Hartford, with Rev. Chuck Layton officiating. Burial was in the Fairfield Cemetery, near New Hartford.
Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Shell Rock was in charge of the arrangements. Memorials may be directed to the New Hartford United Methodist Church.
