Vopal A. Youngberg, 94, of New Hartford, Iowa, passed away on Thursday, April 14, 2011 at the Maple Manor Village in Aplington, Iowa.

Vopal Adrienne Youngberg was born on July 22, 1916, the daughter of Ira and Clara (Wessel) Gowman in New Hartford, Iowa. She graduated from high school and then attended Iowa State Teachers College (now UNI) for two years. Following her education, she taught country school. On October 6, 1940, she was united in marriage to Roy E. Youngberg in New Hartford, Iowa. They lived their entire lives in the New Hartford area.

She was a member of the New Hartford United Methodist Church. In addition to being very active with her family, Vopal was very involved in preserving the history of New Hartford and cataloging years of memories. She was known as the "Butler County Historian" and was inducted into the Butler County Hall of Fame for her many years of work. Vopal was a published author, nature enthusiast, quilter, she enjoyed participating in Girl Scout activities and teaching the youth how life used to be. She was involved in the Women's Club of Cedar Falls, Historical Society in New Hartford, member of the Friends of the Library and much much more to mention.

Survivors are her two sons, Mark (Becky) Youngberg of Parkersburg, Iowa and Rodney Youngberg of New Hartford, Iowa; daughter, Linda Youngberg of Cedar Falls, Iowa; 9 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; 5 great-great-grandchildren; sister, Margaret Crisp of Waterloo, Iowa and by a sister-in-law, Dorothy Stirling of Clarksville, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Roy Youngberg on November 11, 1998; and by a son, Paul Youngberg on January 16, 2009.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, April 19, 2011 at 10:30 am at the New Hartford United Methodist Church in New Hartford, Iowa with Pastor Betsy Piette officiating. Burial will follow in the Fairfield Township Cemetery in rural New Hartford, Iowa. Friends may call from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Monday at the New Hartford United Methodist Church and also an hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Vopal Youngberg Memorial Fund. Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home of Shell Rock is assisting the family with arrangements.
