He was married to Miss Margaret M. Ingalls at Cuba, Allegany Co., New York, Sept. 11, 1855. Of the seven children born to them two died very young and there remain to mourn with and comfort the aged wife, one son and four daughters. Mr. Smith came to Iowa in 1865, settling first in Story City, Story Co., from there he moved to Steamboat Rock, Hardin Co., and then to New Hartford. After another short residence in Steamboat Rock he finally located in 1878 on his present farm in Beaver Twp., Grundy Co. While living in Steamboat Rock he united with the Universalist church and never changed that relationship. The funeral was conducted by Rev. S. C. Bretnall at the late residence on Sunday afternoon last and the burial was in Fairfield cemetery. Mr. Smith was a good farmer and a good neighbor and highly respected by all his acquaintances, who extend much sympathy to the family in this affliction.
