Evelyn Kathleen Weichers
October 13, 1932 – September 25, 2010Evelyn K. Weichers passed away September 25, 2010 after a short illness in Palm Desert, California. Memorial services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, November 13 at Fjeldberg Lutheran Church. She will be put to rest in Roland, Iowa with her immediate family.
She was born October 14, 1932, the youngest daughter of Pauline and August Newgaard in Story County, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 39 years, Donald Weichers; and both of her parents; four sisters, Evangeline Newgaard, Helen Wells, Arlett McKee and Odellia Lantz; and two brothers, Owen Newgaard and Gene Newgaard.
Evelyn moved to Stover, Missouri with her family while she was still in high School and graduated from Stover, Missouri in 1950. After high school she lived in Kansas City and then moved to San Diego, California. While living in San Diego she met her husband Don and they both worked for Convair Airline Company. They married on June 18, 1960 and moved to Cheyenne, Wyoming where Don worked as a job shopper engineer. They eventually moved to Seattle, Washington where Don worked as an engineer for the Boeing Company. Boeing transferred them to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania where they lived for a few years also. After retiring from Boeing they built a house on Whidbey Island, Washington and spent their winters at their home in Thousand Palms, California.
Evelyn spent many hours working on her crafts, such as quilting, decorating eggs, sewing and flower arrangements. She received many awards for her achievements and loved working on her crafts.
She was great friend and a wonderful aunt to all of her nieces, nephews and their families and her in-laws and will be great missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her. We all have many, many fond memories!! May she rest in peace!
