Mildred Thomas

Mildred Thomas, 63, of Alden, died Sunday, January 29 at Mercy Hospital Medical Center in Des Moines. Funeral services were held Wednesday, February 1 at the United Methodist Church in Popejoy. Rev. Ray Hampton and Rev. Lloyd Fitch officiated at the services.

Mrs. Thomas was born August 25, 1925 in German Township, Grundy County, to John R. and Ina Cobie Lindaman. She graduated from Ackley High School in 1943 and also from AIB in Des Moines.

On January 20, 1946 she was united in marriage to Leslie A. Thomas in German Township. The couple lived in Madison County near Winterset from 1946 to 1956 until moving to the family farm northwest of Alden. She was a homemaker and also worked a lot on the family farm. She was a member of the Sunny Corner Club and Vernon Friendly Club, the Popejoy United Methodist Church and the United Methodist Women.

Survivors include her husband, Leslie A.; three sons, Laurel Kent of Williams, Neil Leslie of Dows and Paul Richard of Richardson, Texas; three grandchildren; her father, John R. Lindaman of Ackley; four sisters, Mrs. Daniel (Jean) Campbell of Mt. Vernon, Missouri, Mrs. Don (Jo) Miller of Powell, Wyoming, Mrs. Glenn (Ruth) Boheman and Mrs. Willard (Darlene) Deberg, both of Ackley.

Preceding her in death were her mother and one grandson, Jonathan in 1982.

A memorial fund has been established for the church or the United Methodist Women.

The Surls Funeral Home of Alden was in charge of arrangements.
